EMG nerve & muscle testing

Get to the source of your pain and get back to your life. With EMG, we can help!

“My doctor said I needed an EMG. What is that, exactly?”

EMG stands for electromyogram. You may also have heard it referred to as a “nerve conduction study.” EMG is used to study the function of your muscles and nerves.

“Why do I need to have this test, anyway?”

If you’ve had an injury or if you’re in pain, your doctor needs to get precise information about the nerves and muscles that are involved. EMG is used in evaluating problems like these:

• Pinched nerves in the back or neck
• Tingling or numbness in the arms or legs
• Pain, weakness or tingling in the hands or wrists (primary symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome)
• Weakness in the muscles
• Chronic pain in the back, neck or extremities

Your doctor may have other reasons for ordering an EMG. Be sure to talk to him or her if you have more questions.

“Who performs this test and where do I go to get it?”
